It only needs to show the numerical value of the currently selected face.

Showing this information ensures you are working with the correct face on a mesh, and also makes the face number visible if you need to make a script to influence only a certain side. Otherwise, it can be a bit of trial and error unless you dig through debug/advanced menus to search for such an option.
